Bareilly, June 19: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday took strict action against two senior doctors for medical negligence after a girl died in Bareilly. The ailing girl lost her life because she was not provided treatment on time. CM Yogi Adityanath suspended Dr Kamlemdra Swaroop Gupta and ordered an inquiry against Dr Alka Sharma for medical negligence.

Dr Kamlemdra Swaroop Gupta and Dr Alka Sharma are Chief Medical Superintendent of Men and Women wings of Maharana Pratap District Hospital respectively. Dr Gupta allegedly refused to admit the girl who was seriously ill and referred her to Women's wing of the hospital. The girl was sent back to the Men's wing allegedly by Dr Sharma. After the girl died, both the Chief Medical Superintendents indulged into a heated argument and blamed each other for the child's death. The Uttar Pradesh government had come under severe criticism after the deaths of over 60 children at Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital in 2017. As many as 123 children have died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Muzaffarpur so far, according to the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).
