Lucknow, December 19: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday made it clear that his government will take strict action against the violent protesters, who set ablaze 20 motorcycles, 10 cars, 3 buses and 4 media OB vans during the anti Citizenship Amendment Act movement. He also said that the government would seize property of those found guilty and compensate damage to public property.
Speaking to the media over the violent protests in Lucknow, Adityanath said, "I have called a meeting over this. You cant indulge in violence in name of protest. We will take strict action against such elements. Will seize property of those found guilty and compensate damage to public property." Earlier reports arrived that despite the imposition of Section 144 of Criminal procedure Code (CrPC) in Uttar Pradesh, several protesters gathered in the state capital of Lucknow to mark their dissent against the CAA and pelted stones. Reports of protesters clashing with police too arrived. The security forces also resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the mob at Parivartan Chowk and Hazratganj area, after violent protesters reportedly torched vehicles to mark their angst.
On Wednesday night, Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police (DGP) O P Singh announced prohibitory orders across the state in a bid to prevent the mobilisation of protesters. Despite the imposition of Section 144, members of Muslim community came out in large numbers to protest against the citizenship law.
