"We received communication that the chief minister wants to talk to Kashmiri students. We communicated the same to the students," AMU registrar Abdul Hamid was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying. The invitation has not gone well with Kashmiri students. According to the registrar, no student has registered for the meeting. He said that the efforts were on to persuade the students. Kashmiri students, in a statement, said that Adityanath should talk to professors, lawyers, students and common people of Kashmir who have been airlifted from Kashmir and jailed in UP prisons.
“We find this invitation political in nature,” said the Kashmiri students in the written statement. "We do not want to become pawns... to create a façade of healthy relations with the people of Kashmir," another student said. Reacting to the invitation, AMU students’ union president Mohammad Salman Imtiaz asked why the government wanted to consult Kashmiris after scrapping Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
Kashmiri students had staged protest after the Modi government withdrew Jammu and Kashmir's special status and bifurcated the state into two union territories.
