Bengaluru, may 4: Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister (CM) of Uttar Pradesh (UP), is returning from Karnataka a day after 73 people were killed in a massive dust storm. The UP CM drew flak from the opposition for campaigning in Karnataka for the upcoming assembly elections while the dust storm caused destruction in his state. The chief minister will visit Agra tonight, where 43 people had died.

The Congress yesterday slammed Yogi for campaigning in Karnataka even when the people of UP were suffering from the destruction caused by the dust storm and heavy rains. Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala took a dig at the chief minister. He tweeted, “As over 70 people die in U.P & properties across various districts is ravaged, an unconcerned & absentee CM Adityanath is busy politicking in Karnataka.”

The UP CM cuts short his poll campaign to return to his state to take stock of the situation. Yogi is one of the star campaigners of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Karnataka elections. Yesterday in his rally he launched a scathing attack at Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah. He accused him of giving protection to ‘jihadis’. The assembly elections are going to take place on May 12 and the result will be declared on May 15.
