Mumbai, March 23: The Congress and the Shiv Sena were in a direct electoral fight in Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra. Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha seat went to polls on April 11 in the first phase of general elections. Shiv Sena leader Gawali Bhavana Pundlikrao, who is the current Member of Parliament (MP) from Yavatmal-Washim parliamentary constituency, was re-elected after counting of votes on Thursday.
Gawali Bhavana Pundlikrao has been renominated by the Shiv Sena. The Congress fielded Manikrao Thakre from Yavatmal-Washim seat. In Yavatmal-Washim, the process of filing nomination for began from March 18. The last day for nominations was March 25. Scrutiny was done on March 26 and the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations was March 28. Shiv Sena is contesting 23 out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. The rest of the seats are being contested by its ally the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are contesting together as well. Check Full Schedule of Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP-Shiv Sena-Swabhiman Paksha combine together won 42 out of the 48 seats in Maharashtra. The Congress bagged only two seats and NCP just four. Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases - on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19.
