Mumbai, October 10: The Yavatmal Vidhan Sabha seat in Maharashtra will see a direct fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress in the October 21 assembly elections. The BJP has again fielded its sitting MLA Madan Madhukarrao Yerawar, while the Congress nominated Anil alias Balasaheb Shankarrao Mangulkar. Yogesh Shivram Deshmukh Parwekar is the candidate of Prakash Ambedkar's Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019: Congress-NCP to Contest on 125 Seats Each.

In the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 122 of 288 seats. The Shiv Sena, which broke ties with BJP ahead of polls, came second with 63 seats. The Congress and NCP bagged 42 and 41 seats respectively. Bahujan Vikash Aghadi and the PWP won three seats each, while the AIMIM secured two seats. Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh, CPI(M), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha and Samajwadi Party won one seat each. According to the seat-sharing deal, the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (BJP) are contesting on 125 seats each. The remaining seats have been distributed among smaller partners. As per the pact between the BJP and the Shiv Sena, the saffron party has 164 seats in its quota, whereas the Uddhav Thackeray-led party is contesting on 124 seats.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule for Maharashtra assembly elections, polling will be held on October 21. The counting of votes will take place on October 21 and the results will be declared on the same day. The term of Maharashtra assembly ends on November 9. Nearly 9 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise.
