New Delhi, May 30: Former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Yashwant Sinha on Thursday gave advice to All India Congress Committee President Rahul Gandhi. The Ex-Union Minister said that Rahul should follow his decision to resign as Congress president or risk losing "public estimation". This advice comes after Gandhi said that he wants to resign as a president following the defeat in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In a Twitter post, Sinha, also suggested that the grand old party be run by presidium in the short term. "Rahul Gandhi does not stand firm on his resignation, he will lose further in public estimation. Let the party be run by a presidium or any other arrangement at least for some time," Sinha said. Earlier in March, Sinha gave advice to Rahul Gandhi to work on his alliances for the general elections. "Unsolicited advice to Rahul Gandhi, pl finalise your alliances in Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi and elsewhere today. It is already too late," he tweeted. He also advised opposition parties to "stop speaking against each other in public. Sort out your differences privately."
Rahul Gandhi last week told the Congress Working Committee (CWC) that he would like to resign as a party chief nearly one and half years after he took the job from his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. His announcement came after the grand old party's poor performance in Lok Sabha elections, in which it won 52 of 542 seats.
The 2019 election results were marginally better than 2014, in which the party won 44 seats. On the other side, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 303 seats (352 seats with allies) and Narendra Modi is set to become the first Prime Minister to win two consecutive elections, with full majority, since 1971 when Indira Gandhi won with 352 seats.
