New Delhi, June 24: Congress' legislative leader in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, raised a demand in the Lok Sabha demanding the government to issue an proclaiming the moustache of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman as the "national moustache" of India.

"Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman should be awarded and his moustache should be made 'national moustache'," demanded Chowdhary, the lawmaker from West Bengal's Berhampore.

Abhinandan emerged as an inspiration for scores for his role in the February 27 aerial dogfight against Pakistan.

The Wing Commander had landed into Pakistan's captivity following the brief skirmish. He was, however, released by the Imran Khan government across the border as a "gesture of peace" towards India.

Abhinandan's unique moustache has gained popularity ever since, with several Indians taking it to social media after spotting a similar moustache.
