Mumbai, November 4: The stage is all set for assembly elections in Maharashtra, which will be held on Wednesday, November 20, with the counting of votes taking place on Saturday, November 23. Ahead of the Vidhan Sabha polls, candidates are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters and make their presence felt for the upcoming assembly elections. In Deolali, a family drama emerged after Tanuja Gholap filed her nomination as an independent candidate. Notably, Tanuja's elder brother, Yogesh Gholap, is contesting the upcoming polls from Deolali as a Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate.

According to a Hindustan Times report, following her nomination, Tanuja Gholap received a legal notice from her father, Babanrao Gholap, a former minister, who has asked her to refrain from using his name and rather suggested that she use her husband's name to contest the Maharashtra assembly election 2024. It must be noted that the Deolali assembly constituency in Nashik is reserved for scheduled caste candidates. Tanuja Gholap Files Nomination as Independent Candidate
One of the six assembly constituencies under Nashik Lok Sabha, Deolali was once a fortress of Babanrao Gholap, a leader of undivided Shiv Sena, who is now part of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray). Gholap was elected as an MP from Deolali for a record five terms from 1990 to 2009. In the 2014 assembly elections, Gholap's son Yogesh won the seat but was defeated by Saroj Babulal Ahire of undivided NCP in 2019 polls.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tanuja Gholap said, "My every moment will be dedicated to bring justice to the various issues of the common people, farmers and my women sisters.. and for that today I am filling the nomination form but I hope that all your blessings will be with me." It is also reported that Tanuja Gholap, who is married to Nilesh Bhoir, filed her nomination with her maiden name, "Tanuja Babanrao Gholap". Post her nomination, her father, Babanrao Gholap, sent her a notice and warned her against using his name. Reacting to the notice, the BJP leader said that it was wrong on her father's part to send her such a notice. As today, November 4, is the last date to withdraw the nomination, it is reported that Babanrao Gholap could take back the notice once Tanuja Gholap withdraws her candidature. "Tomorrow is the last day to withdraw and Tanuja will decide by that time," he said.
