Kolkata, May 23: The results of Lok Sabha elections 2019 held in West Bengal, held in seven phases will be declared today along with the other states and union territories. The counting of votes will begin at 8 am. The main electoral contest is between the Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, Left Front and Congress. According to the Election Commission, 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal went to polls in all the seven phases from April 11 to May 19. amid reports of violence, poll rigging, allegations of EVMs malfunctioning and mud sledging between political parties in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC contested in all the 42 seats, while Congress and Left Front in 40 seats. While BJP fielded candidates in 41 Lok Sabha constituencies. In the previous 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, TMC won 34 seats, leaving four seats for Congress, and two each for Left Front and BJP.
As per the various exit polls, the majority of the research agencies predict the return of TMC in the state. India Today-Axis has given 19-22 seats to TMC and 19-23 to BJP. Similarly, Republic-Jan Ki Baat gave 13-21 seats to TMC and 18-26 seats to BJP. However, CNN News 18- IPSOS predicted 36-38 for TMC and 3-5 to BJP. Other surveys were quite similar.
