Kolkata, July 28: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was on Sunday found dead in West Bengal's Hooghly district, sparking tensions in the region. The party workers have pinned blame on the state-ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing of orchestrating the murder to thwart the BJP's growing influence.
The body of deceased, identified as Kashinath Ghosh, was fished out from a canal by the local police earlier today. A probe has been initiated to ban the suspected killers. BJP Worker Khagapati Mahato 'Shot by TMC Goons' in Jhargram
Ghosh's wife has demanded action against the local TMC cadres, accusing them of murdering her husband. "It is a planned murder I want the murderer to get heavy punishment and if possible, the murderer should be hanged," she said. The TMC workers have denied the charge.
Notably, Ghosh, along with 26 other BJP members were accused of assassinating a Trinamool worker, identified as Lalchand Bagh, in Nakunda village last week.
Political violence in West Bengal has claimed scores of lives over the past few decades. The number of fatal assaults have soared up in the last two years, ever since the state's political contest has been primarily stacked up between the BJP and the TMC.
