Bengaluru, May 12: In a bid to encourage voting in poll-bound Karnataka, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and several eateries across the state are offering great discounts on the polling day today.  The IOC is offering Re 1 discount to voters of Belagavi who vote in the Karnataka Assembly Election 2018. Today, on the voting day in poll-bound Karnataka, IOC is offering petrol at Rs 74.86 which is otherwise Rs 74.86 per litre.

The move comes with an aim to encourage people to come out in large numbers and vote. Similar luring offers are noticed at various outlets and shops. People can avail this discount once they show their inked finger that they have. Various outlets are extending discounts to first-time voters and others.

According to a report by TOI, a cyber cafe in Rajajinagar 2nd Stage is offering free internet to people who vote. The cybercafé which is run by S Vishweswaraa Iyer is offering other discounts too.  He informed that on the polling date, voters who cast their vote will get the photocopies per sheet at 25 paise as against the regular rate of Rs 1.

“We will also offer other discounts. The facility will be extended till the BBMP elections, scheduled in 2020”, the owner was quoted by TOI. Iyer further added saying that the main idea is to encourage youngsters to vote. He feels that 80% of the youngsters don’t vote because they don’t trust the candidate or party.

Similar discounts are being offered by Nisarga Grand Pure on Nrupathunga Road in Sampangiramanagar. The outlet will give away free masala dosas to first-time voters who show up with their inked fingers and voter ID cards.  According to a report by TOI, voters who have been voting diligently will be treated to free coffee.
