New Delhi, November 23: Two days after the Parliament's Standing Committee on Finance headed by former Union Minister Veerappa Moily submitted its report blaming demonetisation for the agrarian distress, a Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker struck back with a privilege notice against the Congress veteran.

Nishikant Dubey, who is the BJP MP from Jharkhand's Godda constituency, submitted a notice before Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, seeking action against Moily under the privilege motion for "deeply politicising" the parliamentary panel's report to serve his "ulterior political motives". None But 'One Family' Still Crying Over Note Ban, Says PM Modi.

In his notice, Dubey said Moily has violated the parliamentary ethics by tweeting the details of the report. The BJP leader was referring to a tweet by Moily which cited the inputs received from the Ministry of Agriculture on note ban's adverse impact on farming sector.

"Parliamentary standing committee on finance, headed by me, was briefed by the Ministry of Agri on the impact of demonetization on agri. This is the 1st official acknowledgment by the govt abt the burden our farmers had to bear cos of the ill-conceived idea of note ban (sic)," Moily had posted.

The Moily Committee report, which was accessed by The Hindusaid the note ban was implemented at a time when the farmers were either selling their Kharif produce, or sowing seeds for Rabi season. In the absence of transactable legal tender, the farmers were left with no money to buy seeds.

In the period post demonetisation, the National Seeds Corporation failed to sell nearly 1.38 lakh quintals of wheat seeds, the report said.

"Millions of farmers were unable to get enough cash to buy seeds and fertilisers for their winter crops. Even bigger landlords faced a problem such as paying daily wages to the farmers and purchasing agriculture needs for growing crops," it further added.
