Lucknow, January 24: A day after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra officially entered active politics, reports now say that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi may join the Congress ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Reports say that while Priyanka Gandhi being made the AICC General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East was one trump card by the Congress, the party's second trump card could be Varun Gandhi. Got a Call from PMO when Raised Objections About Rise in MPs Salaries: Varun Gandhi.
Reports say that Varun Gandhi shares a good rapport with cousin sister Priyanka Gandhi and could be entering the Congress party following her, even as his mother Maneka Gandhi continues to be a Union Minister in the Narendra Modi Cabinet. This is not the first time that there have been reports of Varun Gandhi joining the Congress. However, on January 21, when Varun Gandhi was asked about joining the Congress, he had refuted reports. “I am not the kind of person to ever think of changing track just because it would suit me. That would never be the case with me. I would always look for much deeper meaning within myself," Gandhi said.
Varun Gandhi has been critical of the Modi government in the past couple of years. He has also been quoted praising his cousin and Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Such events have given more fuel to the speculation of him quitting the BJP and joining the Congress. However, with no confirmation on it yet, all eyes are on how political equations develop, especially after Priyanka Gandhi's entry, in Uttar Pradesh ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
