The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner Janata Dal-United (JDU) has fielded Baidyanath Prasad Mahto from Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha constituency. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan has issued ticket to Congress; Shashwat Kedar Pandey. The last date of filing nominations for the seat was April 23. In 2014 elections, BJP candidate Satish Chandra Dubey had won from Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha Constituency defeating Congress candidate Purnmasi Ram with a margin of over one lakh votes. In 2009, Baidyanath Prasad Mahto had won the seat on the JDU ticket.

The dates for the seven phases are April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes in 543 constituencies will be taken up on May 23.
