Mehsana, September 2: The Gujarat government will develop a tea stall at Vadnagar station, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi used to sell tea in his childhood, into a tourist spot. Union Cultural and Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel had also visited the place. The state government had already decided to convert the tea stall into a tourist spot in 2017. According to reports, the minister ordered that the stall should be kept in its original condition. The minister also directed the administration to cover the stall with glass to maintain its originality. The state tourism department has started working in the project. PM Modi in his childhood had helped his father after his school gets over. During one of his interviews with Humans of Bombay, he had said, “What I really looked forward to was meeting people from all over the country. I would serve them tea and listen to their stories – that’s how I learnt to speak Hindi. I would hear some traders speak about ‘Bambai’ and wonder, ‘Will I ever get to see the city of dreams?”
During his various political speeches and interviews, PM Modi always mentioned a part of life where he used to sell tea at Vadnagar station. On some occasions, the Prime Minister’s political rivals mocked his claim of selling tea during his childhood. In December last year, Akbaruddin Owaisi All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader and younger brother of the Asaduddin Owaisi took a jibe at the PM and asked him to move up beyond the ‘Chai’ politics.
