The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced dates for Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand. The elections will be held in single phase to  constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. Polling will be held on April 11. The counting of votes will be held on May 23. The key dates for issue of gazette notification for phase 1 is 18th March, the last day of nomination is 25th March, the date for scrutiny of nomination is 26th March while the last date of withdrawal is 28th March. Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Schedule: Voting In 7 Phases From April 11 to May 19, Counting And Results On May 23; Check All Dates For General Elections.

According to the trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress have been the most popular parties in the state since its inception. Other influential parties include Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.

In the last Lok Sabha Elections in 2014, the BJP had won all the five seats in Uttarkhand. As far as Assembly Elections in the state are concerned, the BJP had won a whooping 57 seats out of the total 70 seats, while the Congress managed to win only 11. Meanwhile, the other independent parties had won 2 seats during the Fourth Assembly Elections in the state in 2017. In Uttarakhand, the ruling BJP now faces a tough challenge to retain all the five Lok Sabha seats against Congress  which registered massive victories in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan in the assembly polls held recently.
