Uttar Pradesh Assembly Witnesses Dramatic Scenes, BJP MLAs Sit on Dharna Against Their Own Govt
In a surprising incident for the ruling Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh, hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party legislators sat on a dharna inside the state Assembly on Sunday, and alleged the government is in the state of arrogance and high-handedness.
Lucknow, December 17: In a shocking incident for the ruling Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh, hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party legislators sat on a dharna inside the state Assembly on Tuesday. They were protesting against the state government, accusing that they were not being to allowed to speak and their voices are being curbed inside the Assembly, by the government which is in a state of arrogance and high-handedness.
According to reports, the whole drama unfolded when BJP MLA from Loni -- Nand Kishor Gurjar -- was not allowed to speak in the assembly. He was speaking against the assault case which was registered against him by Ghaziabad SSP Sidhir Singh. When Gurjar tried to present his case, he was asked to be silent by the Speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit and this incited him to sit on a dharna inside the the house. He was soon joined by hundreds of BJP MLAs. Following this, Leader of Opposition and Samajwadi Party leader Ram Govind Chaudhary, too joined in the protest and raised slogans against the Speaker. As per reports, Dikshit reportedly said that the 'insult of one MLA is equal to insulting all the MLAs'. On the other side side, opposition leaders stated that if the MLAs of the ruling party were not allowed to speak in the assembly, how can the opposition expect to be heard.

With the uproar gaining momentum, Dikshit assured the protesting members that corrective action will be taken. After his assurance protest was called off and the session was adjourned for the day.
