Lucknow, February 3: The Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022 will be held in February and March. The voting for the UP Vidhan Sabha polls will take place in seven phases on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, March 3 and 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10, and by the evening, the results will be declared. Uttar Pradesh will witness a multi-cornered contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Although the year-long farmers' protest against the BJP-led government in the centre was called off last year in November, it may impact the UP Vidhan Sabha polls. Here Are Seven Key Constituencies Of Uttar Pradesh:

Gorakhpur (Urban) seat: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath is contesting from Gorakhpur Urban assembly constituency. Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad is also contesting from the constituency against the UP CM. The SP has fielded  Subhavati Shukla, wife of former Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) vice president Upendra Dutt Shukla. The polling in this constituency will be held in the sixth phase.

Karhal: Samajwadi president and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav is contesting from his stronghold Karhal assembly seat in Mainpuri district. The voting in this constituency will take place in the third phase on February 14. The BJP has fielded Union Minister Satya Pal Singh Baghel from this constituency.

Fazilnagar: BJP turncoat and form state minister Swami Prasad Maurya is contesting from the Fazilnagar assembly seat on the SP ticket. The constituency will go to the polls in the sixth phase.

Rampur: Samajwadi Party MP Mohammad Azam Khan is contesting his Rampur seat. He has been in jail since February 2020 and is facing nearly 100 criminal cases piled on him, ranging from buffalo and goat heft to land grabbing and power theft. Azam Khan has won the Rampur Assembly seat nine times since 1980. The polling in this assembly seat will be held in the sixth phase. Akash Saxena of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting against Khan. The Congress has fielded Kazim Ali Khan against Azam Khan.

Suar: Azam Khan's son Abdullah Azam Khan, is contesting on a Samajwadi Party ticket from the Suar constituency. He is facing a tough contest from Haider Ali Khan, who is Kazim Ali Khan's son. Haider is contesting on a BJP ally Apna Dal (S) ticket. The polling will take place in this Vidhan Sabha seat in the second phase.

Lucknow Cantt: The BJP has fielded state Law Minister Brajesh Pathak from Lucknow Cantt. Meanwhile, the SP has given the ticket to Raju Gandhi against Pathak. The assembly seat will go to the polls in the fourth phase.

Sirathu: UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya is contesting from the Sirathu Assembly seat. Meanwhile, the SP has fielded union minister Anupriya Patel's sister Pallavi Patel against the state Deputy CM. The polling will be held in Sirathu in the fifth phase.

The BJP is contesting the UP elections in alliance with Apna Dal (S) and Nishad Party. Meanwhile, the SP formed an alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal, the Nationalist Congress Party, the Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party and the Janwadi Party. Notably, along with Uttar Pradesh, assembly elections are also taking place in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur.

There are a total of 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. In the UP assembly elections 2017, the BJP and its allies won 325 seats. The saffron party alone bagged 312 seats. The SP managed to win only 47 seats. However, its alliance partner in 2017 polls, the Congress, bagged seven seats. The BSP also won only 19 seats.
