New Delhi/Lucknow, December 29: A day after Meerut Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Narayan Singh was caught on camera for saying "go to Pakistan" to two men after making communal statements in a Muslim locality, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has asked the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh to take action against him. The senior policeman made the communal comments while dealing with violent protests in the city that had broken after Friday prayers over the amended citizenship act.

Asking the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh to take strict action senior policeman against the second in command in the district, Naqui said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "If it is true that he made that statement in the video, then it is condemnable. Immediate action must be taken against him." Adding more, the Union Minister had said, "Violence at any level, be it by police or by mob, is unacceptable. It can't be a part of a democratic country. Police should take care that those who are innocent should not suffer." Expressing her concern, even Congress general secretary and incharge of Uttar Pradesh (East), Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had asked the Yogi government to take action against the senior policeman. She took to Twitter. Here's her tweet:

In the meantime, Uttar Pradesh Police had informed that they have 1,100 people and detained 5,500 in connection with vandalising and damaging public property during the anti-CAA protests. Also, cases have been booked against 1000 unidentified students of Aligarh Muslim University for violence which broke out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act on December 15. Till now, 19 people have been killed in the anti-CAA protests and 61 people were injured in the violent clash.
