Lucknow, March 14: The counting of votes for UP and Bihar Bye-Elections 2018 will be held today. The voting for bypolls in the Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh and that for Araria Lok Sabha seat, and Jehanabad and Bhabhua assembly constituencies in Bihar were held on March 11, 2018. For Bihar Bye-Elections, from Araria, deceased RJD MP Mohammad Taslimuddin's son Sarfaraz Alam is contesting on the RJD ticket. In Jehanabad, the battle is between RJD's Sujay Yadav and JD(U)'s Abhiram Sharma. The seat was earlier held by Yadav's father Mundrika Singh Yadav, who passed away last year following prolonged illness. Meanwhile, the Bhabhua was represented by BJP MLA Anand Bhushan Pandey who died last year. His wife Rinki Pandey is contesting on the BJP ticket.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has fielded Kaushalendra Singh Patel from Phulpur and Upendra Dutt Shukla from Gorakhpur against SP’s Pravin Nishad and Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel respectively.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP which got historic mandate in the state and won 325 seats without declaring its chief ministerial candidate finally decided upon its chief minister for the state. Yogi Adityanath is the new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. He was sworn in as the chief minister on 19th of March. Adityanath, a Maths graduate, is one of the youngest chief ministers at 44.
