Lucknow, August 1: The Uttar Pradesh police that is facing flak for showing laxity in the Unnao rape case, on Wednesday held an awareness campaign at a school about women's safety. The UP police officers present at the event had to face embarrassment when a student of class 11 asked them tough questions about the Unnao rape case. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, sharing the video of the girl student's speech, demanded answers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The UP police organised an awareness programme about women's safety at the Anand Bhawan school in Barabanki. After Superintendent of Police S Gautam concluded his speech highlighting the importance of raising voice and protest against harassment, a student Muniba Kidwai stood up to speak. "You said we should raise our voice and protest. We know a teen was raped by a BJP leader," she began, and went on to talk about the accident which left the Unnao girl who had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of rape in a critical condition. Unnao Rape Survivor Accident: Victim's Car Was Over-Speeding, Driver Panicked Seeing Truck Coming From Wrong Side, Finds CBI.

"Everyone knows it was no accident. The truck number plate was painted black...It is one thing to protest when an ordinary person is involved, but what when the person is someone powerful? We know no action will be taken if we protest and even if action is taken, it will be of no use. The girl is in a critical state...If we protest, how will you ensure justice? How will you guarantee my safety? What's the guarantee nothing will happen to me?" Kidwai asked. Her speech was applauded by other students who clapped for her. Truck Involved in Mishap Owned by Brother of Samajwadi Party Leader Nandu Pal.
