Lucknow, August 1: The Uttar Pradesh police that is facing flak for showing laxity in the Unnao rape case, on Wednesday held an awareness campaign at a school about women's safety. The UP police officers present at the event had to face embarrassment when a student of class 11 asked them tough questions about the Unnao rape case. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, sharing the video of the girl student's speech, demanded answers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The UP police organised an awareness programme about women's safety at the Anand Bhawan school in Barabanki. After Superintendent of Police S Gautam concluded his speech highlighting the importance of raising voice and protest against harassment, a student Muniba Kidwai stood up to speak. "You said we should raise our voice and protest. "Everyone knows it was no accident. The truck number plate was painted black...It is one thing to protest when an ordinary person is involved, but what when the person is someone powerful? We know no action will be taken if we protest and even if action is taken, it will be of no use. The girl is in a critical state...If we protest, how will you ensure justice? How will you guarantee my safety? What's the guarantee nothing will happen to me?" Kidwai asked. Class 11 Student's Tough Questions on Unnao Case Leave UP Police Dumbstruck:

Responding to Kidwai's questions, the UP police said “all complainants to toll-free number would be provided help”, according to PTI. On Thursday, Priyanka Gandhi shared the girl's speech and said: "'If some influential persons do some wrong then would our voices be heard?' This question is raised by schoolgirl in Barabanki from the Uttar Pradesh government in an awareness programme. This question is in the minds of every women and girl in Uttar Pradesh. BJP, give answer?”

On July 28, a truck rammed into the vehicle in which the Unnao rape survivor, her counsel and two aunts were travelling to Raebareli. While she and her lawyer sustained grievous injuries, her aunts were killed on the spot.
