Mumbai, November 26: Just three days after the swearing-in, Devendra Fadnavis resigned as the chief minister of Maharashtra on Tuesday. His announcement followed that of NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who quit as the Deputy CM. Among these developments there are reports that Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray will take oath as Maharashtra CM on Wednesday. The reports added that Congress' Bala Saheb Thorat and NCP's Jayant Patil will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers. Ajit Pawar is With Us, Uddhav Thackeray to be Maharashtra CM For Next 5 Years, Says Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut.

Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar were sworn in on Saturday, in a surprise oath ceremony at 7:50 am that was challenged by the Sena-NCP-Congress in the Supreme Court. The apex court ruled that BJP and Ajit Pawar-led NCP should go through floor test that would have been tough for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier today, Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that Ajit Pawar is with them and assured that Uddhav Thackeray will be the CM for the five years term. "Ajit dada has resigned and he is with us. Uddhav Thackeray will be the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for 5 years," he said.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance of the three parties has elected Uddhav Thackeray as its leader for the Chief Minister's post. Most of the issues among the three parties have been sorted out. The Sena-NCP-Congress will also submit a joint statement to the governor to stake a claim for government formation.

In 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, pre-poll alliance BJP and Shiv Sena fought together and secured 105 and 56 seats respectively. The Sena, however, broke its alliance over the power-sharing and equal chief ministership. The Sena then began talks with the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress and formed a "Maha Vikas Aghadi.'

"In elections, a clear majority was given to Mahayuti and BJP got maximum 105 seats. We contested with Shiv Sena, but this mandate was for BJP because BJP won 70 percent seats out of all seats we contested," Fadnavis said in a press conference earlier. He also predicted that Sena-NCP-Congress won't last long.
