Nagpur, December 21: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday announced in the state legislative assembly that farmers' loan up to Rs 2 lakhs will be waived off in the state. The chief minister said that the money will be directly deposited in the bank accounts of the farmers. He also added that the scheme will be implemented from March, 2020. “Crop loans outstanding up to September 30, 2019, will be waived by my government. The upper ceiling for the amount is Rs two lakh. However, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis walked out of the assembly along with other BJP MLAs demanding complete loan waiver for the farmers. The former Maharashtra CM also called the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as anti-farmer and said that the government had gone back on its promise of complete loan waiver. Uddhav Thackeray led Maha Vikas Aghadi had announced at the very onset that farmers are the priority of this government. The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance had listed compensating farmers who had lost their crop due to excessive and unseasonal rains in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) as one of the founding conditions. Uddhav Thackeray had even invited farmers for his swearing-in ceremony.
