TTV Dhinakaran Charged With Criminal Conspiracy in 'Two Leaves' Symbol Bribery Case

The Patiala House Court also asked Dhinakaran to appear before the court on December 4 to sign the copy of charges.

New Delhi, November 17: The Patiala House Court on Saturday refused to discharge independent legislator and expelled AIADMK leader, TTV Dhinakaran in the 'two leaves' symbol bribery case. The court ordered to frame charges including of criminal conspiracy against TTV Dhinakaran, who is currently on bail. Out of the nine accused in the 'two leaves' symbol bribery case, four were charged with various sections, while remaining five got discharged.

TTV Dhinakaran was charged under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of IPC and section 8 of PC Act. The Patiala House Court also asked Dhinakaran to appear before the court on December 4 to sign the copy of charges. Recording of evidence in the court will next be done on December 17-December 22. TTV Dhinakaran's Car Attacked With Petrol Bomb in Chennai, 2 Injured.

The police had accused middleman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, Dhinakaran and others of hatching a criminal conspiracy to bribe some Election Commission officials to get the 'two leaves' symbol for the Sasikala-led AIADMK (Amma) faction. The Delhi Police had on December 14 last year filed a supplementary chargesheet against Dhinakaran, Chandrashekhar and seven others in the matter. AIADMK Symbol Row: TTV Dhinakaran Faction Cannot Use 'Pressure Cooker', Says Supreme Court Overruling Delhi HC's Order.

In its 701-page charge sheet filed on July 14 last year, the police had claimed that money recovered from Chandrashekar was sent by Dhinakaran through unaccounted channels with the help of other accused persons. Dhinakaran, accused of trying to bribe EC officials to get the “two leaves” poll symbol for the AIADMK faction led by V K Sasikala, was arrested on April 25 and granted bail on June 1.

The poll panel had allotted the 'two leaves' symbol to the AIADMK faction headed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam.
