Tripura Violence: Home Minister Rajnath Singh Asks Governor And DGP To Ensure Law & Order After Lenin Statue Toppled
Home Minister Rajnath Singh took stock of the situation and has instructed the authorities to take necessary action in order to maintain law and order in the state of Tripura.
New Delhi, March 6: In the wake of growing violence after the BJP-IPFT alliance victory in the 2018 assembly election, Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy and DGP A K Shukla. According to PTI, Home Minister Rajnath Singh took stock of the situation and has instructed the authorities to take necessary action in order to maintain law and order in the state of Tripura after a Lenin statue was toppled in Tripura's Belonia college square.
According to reports, Governor Tathagata Roy and DGP A K Shukla spoke to the Union home minister and informed him about the present situation in Tripura and the steps taken by state machinery to control the violence, which broke following the BJP-IPFT alliances victory in the left bastion after defeating CPI-M and ousting the Manik Sarkar led government.
Rajnath Singh asked the governor and the DGP to check the violence and make sure that peace in the state is maintained till a new government is installed in Tripura, said the home ministry official.
Earlier in the day there were reports of violence and a video had surfaced on social media, where alleged right-wing supporters toppled and brought down communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin’s statue in Belonia town in the state of Tripura. Reactions have been coming in from political quarters as well.
The BJP managed to win the 2018 assembly polls in Tripura by a large margin and defeated the CPI-M in the state, which was considered to be CPI-M citadel as the left party had ruled there for 25 years.
