Agartala, Mar 3: Sepahijala, the home-district of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, holds key to the prospects of the CPI(M) returning to power in Tripura. The district, along with other parts of the state, went to polls on February 18 when the Tripura assembly elections 2018 were conducted. The results are scheduled to be declared today by the Election Commission. The counting of votes was scheduled to begin at 8 am. LatestLY brings to you on this page the latest results, trends and updates from the eight assembly seats of Sepahijala district: Bishalgarh, Boxanagar, Dhanpur, Takarjala, Kamalasagar, Nalchar, Sonamura and Golaghati. Four of these seats are reserved for tribals. Stay tuned for the updates below.
In the 2013 polls, the CPM clean swept the entire district, banking on the popularity and pro-incumbency wave in favour of Manik Sarkar. However, in the run-up to the 2018 Tripura elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led a high-pitch campaign to erode CPM from Sepahijala.

Sepahijala result would be a litmus test of CM Manik Sarkar's personal performance, claim pollsters, as the party has clean swept all eight seats in the district in 2008 and 2013 based upon his stature. A depreciation in the party's tally in this round of the polls could be equated with a depreciation of Sarkar's own popularity in home-district.
