Agartala., December 28: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a land sliding victory in Tripura civic by-elections. The party won 66 seats out of 67, while one seat was bagged by the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Meanwhile, the BJP won the all four wards of the 49-member Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). The CPM candidate won the single seat from Panisagar Municipal Council, while, the remaining 10 seats were by the BJP. Various incidents of violence and poll malpractice were reported from several areas. The civic bypolls were held in seven urban local bodies on Thursday. After the results, the state chief minister Biplab Deb congratulated BJP workers. He also greeted the voters for showing faith on the party. "The people living in civic bodies want the good work taken by the government to continue in their areas too," reported The Times of India quoting Deb as saying. Meanwhile, the opposition parties including CPM, Congress and Trinamool accused the BJP of rigging the by-elections and perpetrating violence.
