TMC Writes to EC on PM Narendra Modi's Kedarnath Temple Visit Media Coverage During Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Alleges MCC Violation

Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien on Sunday wrote to Election Commission alleging a gross violation of Model Code of Conduct during his Kedarnath Temple visit amid Lok Sabha Elections 2019. He appealed to the EC to take note of this and take action.

Kolkata, May 19: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a visit to Kedarnath Temple amid Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien on Sunday wrote to Election Commission alleging a gross violation of Model Code of Conduct. He appealed to the EC to take note of this and take action.

Writing to the EC, the TMC parliamentarian wrote, "I Would like to bring to your notice that even though the Election Campaign for the last phase of polling for 2019 Lok Sabha ins over as long as back on 17th May, 2019 at 6 pm, surprisingly, Shri Narendra Modi' Kedarnath Yatra is being covered and widely televised for teh last two days in all the national as well as local media. Adding more, he wrote, "He even announced that the Master Plan for the Kedarnath Temple is ready and also addressed the public and the media at Kedarnath. It is Absolutely unethical and morally incorrect."

Alleging that every minute detail of his activities during the visit is being widely publicised, Brien wrote, "Every minute detail of his activities during the visit is being widely publicised with an ulterior motive to influence voters directly and/or directly. "Modi Modi" chants are also being heard from the background. All these moves are well calculated with the ill intention to influence the voters even on the date of the poll."

Appealing to EC for taking note of the issue, he wrote, "It is very unfortunate that the Election Commission, the highest body and the eyes and ears of the democratic process, remains blind and deaf to the gross violation of the MCC.

I would request you to take immediate action and stop telecast of such surreptitious and unfair campaign which is also morally wrong."

The elections are being currently taking place in eight states for 59 Lok Sabha seats, where 918 candidates are in the fray. The results would be announced on May 23.
