New Delhi, June 24: In a yet another setback for Mamata Banerjee government, a TMC MLA is preparing to switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the latest in the series of defections of West Bengal's leaders in last few weeks. Speaking to ANI, Wilson Champramary, Alipurduar MLA from Kalchini constituency said that along with him 18 councillors of the TMC are joining BJP. On June 16, TMC MLA from Bongaon, Biswajit Das along with 12 party councillors joined BJP. A day before this, TMC MLA Sunil Singh with 15 TMC Councillors joined the saffron cadre. After the poll results, the BJP wave continued in West Bengal. TMC MLA Subhrangshu Roy, son of BJP leader Mukul Roy, also joined team Modi with over 60 councillors. Reacting to defections, Mamata Banerjee had said, "We are not bothered about a few corrupt and greedy leaders who are switching to some other party. They joined the BJP as they were afraid they might face consequences for their activities."

In a meeting with party councillor, TMC supremo said, "we are throwing out our garbage and the BJP is collecting it. But some joining the other party won't save anyone from a corruption probe." Banerjee also said that she want to restructure TMC before 2021 Assembly elections in West Bengal.
