Bengaluru, November 10: Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has decided to give the Tipu Sultan Jayanti celebrations in the state a miss amid the row over the legacy of the former ruler of Mysore. Also, section 144 has been imposed in 9 districts of Karnataka to prevent any kind of violence after the BJP warned of protests in the state.
Various groups protesting against the Tipu Sultan Jayanti collected on the streets of Madikeri. The police also detained protestors. Watch the visuals below:

Sajjal Krishnan, the Kodagu BJP District secretary, said that the "Govt is wasting public money in the name of Tipu Jayanti. Tipu is not a warrior, he killed so many Hindus and attacked temples. Why are they glorifying a man like him? This is only vote bank politics. Everyone in Kodagu is opposing the celebrations."

PI Srividya, Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu, talking about the security measures in the state said that, "We have taken all precautionary measures. If somebody violates law and order the police will take strict action." Meanwhile, Karnataka Minority Welfare Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan met former Congress CM Siddaramaiah at his residence in Bengaluru today as part of the Tipu Jayanthi celebrations being observed by the state government on Saturday, November 10.
