Bhopal, December 11: The Election Commission of India will declare results of assembly elections 2018 in Madhya Pradesh today. Polling for elections results of 230 seats, including Tikamgarh, Jatara, Prithvipur, Niwari, Khargapur and Maharajpur, was held on November 28. In Tikamgarh, the contest is between BJP's Rakesh Giri and Congress candidate Yadvendra Singh. The seat was earlier won by BJP's KK Shrivastava. In Jatara, the electoral fight is between BJP's Harishankar Khatik and Loktantrik Janta Dal candidate Dr Vikram Choudhary, who has the backing of the Congress. Congress's Ahirwar Dinesh Kumar is the incumbent MLA from the seat. The Prithvipur assembly seat witnessed between BJP's Abhay Yadav and Congress's nominee Brajendra Singh Rathore. The seat is currently held by BJP MLA Anita Sunil Nayak.
In Niwari, the BJP fielded incumbent MLA Anil Jain against Congress candidate Ahir Captain Surendra Singh. In Khargapur, Congress's sitting legislator Chanda Singh Gour faces a challenge from BJP's Rahul Lodhi. In Maharajpur, BJP's sitting MLA Manvendra Singh re-contested against Congress nominee Neeraj Dixit. Around 75 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. As many as 2,899 candidates contested for the 230 seats. While the ruling BJP, led by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is seeking a fourth consecutive term, the Congress is desperate to make a comeback in the state. The BJP had won 166 seats in 2013 Assembly polls, while the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had bagged 58 and four seats respectively.
