Hyderabad, March 26: Congress candidate Jeevan Reddy Garu has won Telangana MLC elections from Karimnagar Graduates constituency. Earlier, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) backed candidate Narsi Reddy won Telangana MLC elections from Karimnagar Teacher’s constituency. It is considered to a setback for the ruling Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) government in the state, as it lost both the seats.
For the smooth conduct of counting of votes, around 14 tables were set up. According to reports, authorities had appointed 36 supervisors, 72 assistants, 36 micro-observers, 10 report calculators and 50 other revenue officials. The total voter turnout in these elections was 89.25 percent, as a total of 18,888 voters casted their votes in the 12 new districts. Earlier, this month, in the biennial elections held for five seats of the Telangana Legislative Council, four members of theTRS, were elected, whereas, the remaining one seat was bagged by its ally - the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Elections for four more MLC seats for Graduates and Teachers constituencies in Telangana was held on March 22. The election was necessitated following the retirement of K Swamy Goud (Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad, Karimnagar Graduates’), Paturi Sudhakar Reddy (Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad, Karimnagar Teachers’), Poola Ravinder (Warangal, Khammam, Nalgonda Teachers’) and MS Prabhakar (Hyderabad Local Authorities’).
