Hyderabad, Sep 6: Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan on Thursday dissolved the state assembly following the recommendation from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao-led cabinet. While dissolving the assembly, the Governor asked Rao, who is popularly known as KCR, to continue as caretaker chief minister until the new government is formed.
The dissolution of the assembly makes the way clear for early polls in the state. Addressing the media after meeting the Governor, KCR said the decision to dissolve assembly for an early election is not a political move. The caretaker chief minister also announced a list of 105 Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) candidates.
"Both the BJP and the Congress have done nothing for the state. The decision to dissolve assembly is a sacrifice and not a political move. We dissolved the assembly and opted early polls so that development continues in the state," KCR told media. "No incident of communal violence took place under my watch," the TRS chief added.
Ending the suspense, the state cabinet earlier today passed a resolution for dissolution of the assembly at the meeting held at Pragati Bhavan, the official residence of the Chief Minister. Immediately after the cabinet meeting that lasted for less than half hour, KCR drove to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor. Minutes later, a statement was issued from Raj Bhava announcing that the Governor had accepted the cabinet recommendation to dissolve the Assembly.
The Chief Minister presented to the Governor the resolution recommending the dissolution of the first Legislative Assembly of Telangana state, said the statement. The Governor while accepting the recommendation requested Rao and his Council of Ministers to continue in office as a caretaker government. Rao has agreed, added the statement.
The assembly term is till May 2019 and elections in normal course would have been conducted along with the Lok Sabha polls. Following the dissolution of the assembly, elections may be held along with four other states going to polls in December.
