Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is a prominent contender in the state followed by the Indian National Congress (INC) and its grand allaince. Ahead of the elections, Congress formed Maha Kootami along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Communist Party of India (CPI) and M Kodandaram’s newly formed Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) to take on the popular TRS in Telangana. In September, the K Chandrashekar Rao-led Telangana government dissolved the Assembly eight months ahead of its expiry period leading to snap elections in the state. The TRS had 90 of the 119 seats in the state assembly. KCR is currently the caretaker Chief Minister and president of TRS. This is the second time Telangana is going to assembly election since its formation in June 2014. The KCR-led TRS won 63 seats out of 119 and won more seats from other parties. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telugu Desam Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Telangana Jana Samithi, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) are also eyeing on seats this election.
