Hyderabad, September 6: In the latest development, the Telangana cabinet has passed a resolution to dissolve the state assembly to pave the way for early elections. The decision was taken after the meeting held today. After the meeting chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao informed governor E.S.L. Narasimhan about the cabinet's decision. The governor has accepted the resolution and asked KCR to continue as caretaker chief minister.

Speculations were rife that the Telangana government would go for early polls along with four other states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The state Chief Minister had also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August. KCR's son and cabinet minister K.T. Rama Rao earlier said the Chief Minister would take a final decision on the early polls.

On Sunday, a public meeting was held by the TRS in Ranga Reddy district. Legislative Assembly polls in Telangana are scheduled to be held simultaneously with Lok Sabha elections next year, but the ruling TRS reportedly sees political benefit in delinking the two polls. The party came to power in the state in the maiden assembly elections held in May 2014, winning 63 of the 119 seats.
