Political corridors in Hyderabad are abuzz with claims that the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is gearing up for early elections. News18 on Wednesday reported that the state could go to polls later this year, along with Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
Pollsters claim KCR is likely to pull a victory if the polls are advanced as he would succeed in catching the Opposition off guard. His "pro-people" work in the last four years, combined with largesse and subsidies extended to all sections, will aide his re-run to power, the exports opine.
The 119-member Telangana assembly was elected for the first time on April 30, 2014, shortly after the state was demarcated from Andhra Pradesh.
KCR, who was the prime architect of the agitation which led to the creation of Telangana, won the first assembly elections of the newly formed state with a three-fourth majority.
90 of the state's 119 seats are represented by the TRS. 13 constituencies are represented by the Congress, 7 by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, 5 by Bharatiya Janata Party and 3 by the Telugu Desam Party.
In the past couple of months, KCR has drawn the attention of national media for his tirade against the Narendra Modi government, accusing it of adopting an anti-federal approach. The Telangana CM has appealed non-BJP, non-Congress parties to form a third front ahead of the next Lok Sabha elections.
