Telangana Assembly Elections 2018: Sonia Gandhi Tears Into TRS During Her Maiden Election Rally in State

As the assembly elections are drawing closer in Telangana, the political atmosphere in the state is heating up. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her maiden visit to the state launched a scathing attack on the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS).

Hyderabad, November 23: As the assembly elections are drawing closer in Telangana, the political atmosphere in the state is heating up. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her maiden visit to the state launched a scathing attack on the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS). While addressing the rally in Medchal, Gandhi asked the people of the state to teach a fitting lesson to the TRS. The former Congress president said, “Mothers know how important it is to look after a newborn baby. Gandhi also stated that carving out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh proved to be a big political loss for the party, but the decision was taken for a larger interest of the people of the state. She also alleged that farmers suicide were on the rise in the state since its formation. The former Congress president also slammed the TRS for setting aside the central land acquisition act, 2013, brought in by then UPA government to forcibly acquire their lands. Meanwhile, speaking about granting special status to Andhra Pradesh, Gandhi said that if the Congress comes to power, it would grant special status.

The Congress president Rahul Gandhi also lashed out at the incumbent K Chandrashekhar Rao led TRS government. While praising Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president said, “When people of Telangana dreamed of forming the state, it was Sonia Gandhi Ji who stood by the people. If Telangana was formed, it was the public who formed it with their sweat and blood. The Congress is contesting these elections in alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS). For the 119-seat assembly, the grand old party fielded 94 candidates. The state is undergoing elections on December 7, and the result will be declared on December 11.
