Telangana Assembly Elections 2018: Congress Expels 19 Rebels From Party For Six Years

Ahead of the assembly elections in Telangana, the Congress on Saturday expelled 19 rebel party workers from the primary membership for six years. The leaders were expelled for contesting against the official party candidates in the upcoming assembly elections.

Hyderabad, November 24: Ahead of the assembly elections in Telangana, the Congress on Saturday expelled 19 rebel party workers from the primary membership for six years. The leaders were expelled for contesting against the official party candidates in the upcoming assembly elections. The orders will come into force with immediate effect, according to a statement from M Kodanda Reddy, Chairman of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee's (TPCC) Disciplinary Action Committee. The grand old party is contesting the upcoming assembly polls in alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Jan Samithi and Communist Party of India (CPI). The Congress will contest on 94 seats, while the TDP has fielded its candidates on 14 seats. The TJS and the CPI will contest on eight and three seats respectively. On September 6, Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan had dissolved the state assembly following the recommendation from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao-led cabinet. The Governor, however, asked Rao to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the new government was formed. On October 6, the Election Commission announced the date for polls in the state. Telangana will go to polls on December 7 along with Rajasthan, while counting of votes will take place on December 11.
