Patna, December 21: Rashtriya Janata Party (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday extended support to the country-wide protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He tweeted his picture with a poster in hand which reads, “I am Hindu! I am Indian." Tejashwi clicked the picture with an image of RJD chief and his father Lalu Prasad Yadav. The RJD leader tweeted, “I am Tejashwi! I am Hindu! I am Indian! I stand with constitution! I stand with people of India! I stand with poor & Farmers! #NoToNRC, #NoToCAA.” The picture was tweeted by Tejashwi hours before taking part in anti-CAA protests in Patna. The protest was part of "Bihar Bandh" call given by the RJD against the CAA. Tejashwi Yadav's Tweet:
On Friday, the RJD leader had termed the act as unconstitutional and against humanity. He told news agency ANI, “It has exposed the divisive character of BJP.” On December 19, Lalu Prasad also condemned the act. In a tweet, the RJD chief lashed out at Bihar CM Nitish Kumar without naming him for supporting the Citizenship Amendment Bill. He tweeted, "Country is burning. Citizens are out on streets protesting against constitutional crisis. Political parties to civil societies hv spoken. Any guess on only turncoat leader who is conveniently silent? History wil judge him for betrayal, deciet, opportunism, cowardice & immortality."
Lalu Prasad Yadav's Tweet:
The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament, last week. After the passage of the bill, nation-wide protests rocked the country. The CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
