Patna, November 11: Mewa Lal Choudhary of the JD(U) has won from the Tarapur Vidhan Sabha Seat. The Tarapur constituency is a part of the Banka Lok Sabha constituency that falls in the Munger district of Bihar. The voting in the Tarapur elections was held on October 28 in the first phase of Bihar Assembly Elections 2020. The counting of votes as well as the results were announced on November 10. The Bihar election is believed to be one of the biggest elections amid the coronavirus pandemic. The ECI had said that the polling for Bihar assembly elections would be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7, followed by counting of votes on November 10.

The main candidates for the Tarapur Assembly Election 2020 included Mewa Lal Choudhary of the JD(U), who is the current MLA, Divya Prakash of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Mina Devi of the Lok Jan Shakti Party among others. In the 2015 Bihar elections, Mewa Lal Choudhary the JD (U) had won from the Tarapur seat by defeating HAM(S) candidate Sakuni Choudhary.
The voting for the first phase was held on October 28 which covered 71 assembly constituencies, while the second-phase voting was held on November 3 which covered 94 seats. The third phase of voting on November 7 covered 78 assembly seats. In Bihar, the ruling NDA faced a challenge from the RJD-Congress alliance (JDU+BJP) and the Mahagathbandhan.
