Chennai, April 5: Tamil Nadu is witnessing a state-wide bandh called by the opposition party DMK along with other parties like Congress, CPI and CPI (M) against the centre government over the Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Opposition parties are protesting for not setting up Cauvery Management Board. DMK has accused the centre government for not taking the issue seriously and delaying the setting up of CMB. DMK also accused centre government for not setting up the board for political gains in Karnataka as the Assembly Elections are due in Karnataka next month.
MK Stalin organised a meeting on April 1 to seek support for today’s bandh. Leaders of Congress, CPI and CPI (m) were also present in the meeting called by MK Stalin. Protestors raised slogans against the NDA government. Protestors staged protest in front of various government offices.
DMK also opposed the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tamil Nadu on April 15. Opposition parties will also hold ‘Cauvery Rights Retrival Yatra’ after the bandh. Meanwhile on yesterday AIADMK, the ruling party in Tamil Nadu conducted a day-long hunger strike protesting against centre government’s stand on cauvery water dispute.
