New Delhi, June 29: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday has launched a fresh salvo at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the latest report released by the Swiss National Bank (SNB). According to the report,  there was a rise in Indian deposits last year by 50 percent. Referring to PM Modi’s promises during the tenure of his government, Gandhi took to Twitter to criticise him.

Gandhi questioned the PM’s promise of bringing all the black money from the Swiss banks and depositing Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s account. The Congress president also took a jibe on PM Modi’s move of ‘Demonetisation’. In his tweet, Gandhi also referred to Interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal’s response to SNB's report.

Earlier in the day, Goyal said that Switzerland would provide all data on black money by the end of this financial year, i.e., March 2019. Goyal said, "Agreement between India and Switzerland has this. From January 1, 2018, till end of accounting year, all data will be made available. So why assume this is black money or illegal transactions?" He also promised strict action against those found guilty of having depositing money abroad.

The annual data released by the Swiss National Bank on Thursday said that money deposited by Indians in Swiss banks rose over 50 percent to Swiss Francs (CHF) 1.01 billion (₹7,000 crore) in 2017. Meanwhile, total funds of foreign clients in Swiss banks rose by 3 percent.
