New Delhi, August 7: Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who died on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest, would have worn a green saree today, had she been alive. Though Sushma Swaraj was known as "people's minister" because she was approachable, not many know about her unique wardrobe management. Swaraj colour-coordinated her clothes with the days of the week.

Swaraj had a habit of wearing a particular colour on different days of the week. She would wear white or cream-coloured clothes on Mondays and red or maroon on Tuesdays. On Wednesdays, she would prefer green. She used to wear yellow on Thursdays, purple on Fridays and blue on Saturdays. The colour rule wouldn't apply on Sundays. People could make out what day that was just by looking at the colour of Swaraj's attire. Sushma Swaraj Cremated With Full State Honours, Daughter Bansuri Performs Last Rites.

Sushma Swaraj had once drawn flak for following the colour code. A section of people had questioned her when she wore a green saree on her visit to Pakistan on December 9, 2015. "People find such strange things to criticise…Why was my saree green? Why did I speak in Urdu? ... I wear a green saree every Wednesday, and that day was a Wednesday," she had told the Parliament after her return. Geeta, Indian Girl Who Returned to India From Pakistan With Sushma Swaraj’s Help, Pays Tribute to the Veteran BJP Leader.

There was no superstitious reason behind Swaraj's choice of colours on different days of the week. "Politicians do not have much time at their disposal. We do not have the leisure of selecting clothes while getting ready. Hence, I have developed my own wardrobe management. My clothes are arranged according to colours. I find it easier to pick them according to the day," she was quoted by TOI as saying.

Swaraj, a veteran leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was cremated with full state honours today. Swaraj died of cardiac arrest at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday night.
