New Delhi, May 8: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to pass on alleged hate speeches by PM Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party Amit Shah. The apex court quashed the petition filed by Congress parliamentarian Sushmita Dev who sought direction to the Election Commission to take appropriate action against these leaders.
Earlier, the Congress leader filed the affidavit in SC citing inaction by the EC in dealing with complaints against Shah and PM Modi. She filed an additional affidavit alleging discrimination and arbitrariness by the poll conducting body in favour of PM Modi and Shah. However, had contended that the EC has passed various orders in a cryptic manner exonerating Modi and Shah without giving any reasons for the same. In the affidavit, she had said, as Bar and Bench reports, "Respondent-ECI has passed the above orders in a cryptic manner without any reasons whatsoever, in stark violation of the law laid down by this Hon’ble Court."
In another development, the Supreme Court asked the EC to examine the plea of former BSF constable Tej Bahadur Yadav against the rejection of his nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency by tomorrow. Samajwadi Party had fielded Tej Bahadur as its candidate against PM Modi from the constituency.
