Lucknow, October 9: Sudhanshu Trivedi has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in a by-election from Uttar Pradesh on Monday, October 9. He was declared elected unopposed after the deadline of withdrawal of nominations ended at 3 pm. The seat became vacant following the death of former finance minister Arun Jaitley, who died in August. Jaitley was elected in 2018 and his tenure was till 2024.

Trivedi received the election certificate after winning unopposed. Sudhanshu Trivedi was nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the Congress, Samajwadi Party and other parties did not field any candidate for the bypoll. The BJP leader, who is a PhD holder in Mechanical Engineering, has been serving the saffron party for a long time. He worked as Information Advisor to the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh (currently Defence Minister). He was also a political advisor to Rajnath Singh when he was BJP National President.
