Delhi, October 23: Months ahead of 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections, Indian National Congress on Wednesday appointed Subhash Chopra as Delhi Congress president. Cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad was appointed as the chairman of the campaign committee the party's national capital unit. The Delhi chief post was vacant since Sheila Dixit's death in July. "Congress president has appointed Subhash Chopra as president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC). Congress president has appointed Kirti Azad as the chairman of the DPCC campaign committee," an official communication said.

Chopra, a three-time Member of Delhi Legislative Assembly, is also a former Delhi Congress president. He was also a speaker of Delhi assembly. He was Delhi chief when Dikshit was the Chief Minister.
For the 2020 Delhi Elections, ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have already started their campaign. For the grand old party, the major task would be fostering unity before the crucial polls.
