Statue of Vladimir Lenin & CPIM Offices Vandalized in Different Parts of Tripura: Video Goes Viral

A video has surfaced on social media, where alleged right-wing supporters have brought down communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin’s statue, in Belonia town of the state.

It is not even 2 days that the Left Front’s 25 year old rule came to an end in Tripura, a video has surfaced on social media, where alleged right-wing supporters have brought down communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin’s statue, in Belonia town of the state.

According to News18.com, a photo of the incident was shared by BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Twitter and instead of condemning the act, he voiced his support towards it, however, the tweet was later deleted. In a report published in The Hindu, BJP had earlier claimed that their win will mark the end for Communist figures such as Karl Marx and Lenin in Agartala and other parts of the state.

The video shows people who are pulling down the statue wearing ‘Chalo Paltai’ T-shirts and chanting “Bharat mata ki jai. The statue was built 5 years ago on the 21st year of CPI-M's rule in Tripura.

According to reports on ANI, CPIM offices in various parts of the state were also attacked. Incidents of vandalism were reported from Bishalgarh, Amarendranagar, Mohanpur, Sabroom, Melagarh, Khowai, Jirania, Khomlung, Belonia, Ramnagar (Agartala), and South Ramnagar (Agartala). There have been other post poll violence incidents being reported from various parts of the state since Saturday night.

According to reports, CPI(M) office secretary Haripada Das said over 240 people were injured in attacks on party offices, offices of Left trade unions and homes of prominent leaders in the last 48 hours. There are no reports of arrests till now. BJP and Indigenous People Front of Tripura (IPFT) won a majority of seats in the recently held assembly elections.
