The Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka has unveiled a state flag on Thursday. The flag or “Naada Dwaja” with red, white and yellow colours has state emblem “Ganda Bherunda”, a two-headed mythical bird in the middle. As per reports, the committee to decide the design of the flag was headed by eminent Kannada writer and scholar Hampa Nagarajaiah.
An ANI Report further highlights that, post this, it will be sent to central government for approval, after that it will be announced as the state flag. Last year, Karnataka formed a panel to design a separate flag for the state. An official state flag for Karnataka is a longstanding demand of pro-Kannada activists.

Significance of Design and Colour of This Kannada Flag:
The earlier original version of red and yellow flag was created by Kannada writer and activist Ma Ramamurthy for a pro-Kannada political party called the Kannada Paksha decades ago. This flag is unofficially considered as state flag since 1960s. The flag has now adopted by pro-Kannada activists as a symbol of state pride and recognition. The colours - yellow and red in the flag represent Arrishna (Turmeric which is yellow) and Kumkuma (Vermilion which is red) to symbolize auspiciousness and well-being of the Kannadigas and the state of Karnataka. The final approved State flag is Yellow, White with yellow colors and has the state emblem in the middle.
Reportedly, in 2014, Patil Puttappa, a 96-year-old veteran journalist and Kannada activist, along with others approached the Karnataka government, demanding a separate official flag for the state.
Till now, under Article 370 of the Constitution, Jammu & Kashmir, is the only state in the country that has the permission to have its own flag.
